Chapter 20
Tied and unhappy
Arturo Sandus had woken with a jolt as he had felt himself being seized, thinking it was part of a dream until a hand went over his mouth. One person restrained his arms while another person tied his legs together. Then his arms were tied, and a rag shoved in his mouth, and the next thing he knew, he was being carried from the house by a group of people who spoke in a language he didn't understand and had never heard before.
He was carried slowly down the entrance track and then towards the town, as far as he could tell in the darkness, although they veered off before reaching the town proper, and then he could hear the lapping of the water which indicated to him that they were near the shore. Shortly after, he heard creaking noises, the type a sailboat makes, then some splashing and more voices. He was immediately lifted up and passed aboard the vessel, which stunk of fish and stale water or something. He was left lying on the deck while hushed words were spoken, and then he could feel the vessel heal slightly and assumed that they were sailing away from the shore.
As kidnappings went, he had to admit it had all been very efficient. It had been so long since anyone had attempted anything sinister against him he suspected even Briana had been getting complacent. Soon he could feel the vessel rising and falling and healing considerably, and he knew they were out in the ocean, though he couldn't see in what direction they were traveling because of the darkness. He could feel his limbs going numb because the bindings were too tight, and he was having trouble breathing past the rag that had been roughly shoved into his mouth when he was picked up and moved. He couldn't quite determine where he was being moved to in the darkness, but it looked to be towards the rear of the vessel where he would be out of the way, he assumed.
He was left there unattended for what seemed like hours before the sky began to lighten. Soon he could see the deck in front of him, and the gunwale that he guessed ran across the rear of the vessel. Unfortunately, it prevented him from seeing where he was, and he was placed in such a way that he found it difficult to roll over so he could try and look in a different direction or even lift his head up, for that matter.
With the dawn, his captors seemed to relax somewhat. He was given some water, and then the ropes binding him were released, allowing circulation to return to his limbs and so we could attend to the demands of nature though it was most uncomfortable doing his business in front of three armed guards. He could see they were sailing north along the coast in a small fishing vessel. He hoped they didn't get foul weather before they
